US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has held separate telephone calls with Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
The Secretary urged General Burhan to immediately release all political figures detained since October 25 and return to a dialogue that returns Prime Minister Hamdok to office and restores civilian-led governance in Sudan.
Meanwhile Mr Blinken said he strongly supported the Sudanese people who seek democracy and called for an immediate restoration of the civilian-led transition to democracy.
Sudan has been in politicial turmoil since the military announced a coup and and dissolved the civilian led government.
