Dissolve parliament: Kenya Chief Justice advises president

Kenya’s Chief Justice David Maraga has written to President Uhuru Kenyatta advising him to dissolve parliament over its failure to  enact laws meant to ensure gender equality.

The two thirds rule is a requirement of the country’s constitution enacted a decade ago, which states that ‘not more than two-thirds of the members of elective public bodies shall be of the same gender’.

But to date no bill has been passed in parliament to effect it. And now Chief Justice David Mutunga has asked president Kenyatta to  dissolve the house over continuous failure to enact relevant laws.
